More on Betrayal Trauma

  • Yes. Betrayal —especially ongoing or concealed sexual behavior—is a threat to your nervous system’s sense of safety. Research shows that relational trauma can overwhelm the nervous system in the same way witnessing or experiencing a violent act, natural disaster or threat to life. Anxiety, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, and emotional numbness are common trauma responses, not personal failings.

  • No. Therapy is NOT about pushing you toward a decision. Many partners need time and support before they can begin to decide what they want to do in the relationship. We focus first on your safety, clarity and well-being.
